Singapore Chooses Anodised Street Poles from Australia

Colour anodising is a major feature of a new generation of street poles being marketed in Australia and abroad by Streetscape Projects of Sydney.

The new "smart poles" are fabricated from aluminium extrusions. They support cables, traffic lights, signs, cameras and various lighting systems.

Australian designed smart poles are in favour when streetscapes are being upgraded, on the basis of their superior aesthetics and functionality.

One example is in Singapore, where more than 200 smart poles from Streetscape Projects have been installed in the Orchard Road shopping precinct.

The poles, manufactured in Sydney by Streetscape Projects, are colour anodised by Universal Anodisers at Wetherill Park, in Sydney's West.

Prior anodising experience indicates that the anodised aluminium poles should need no maintenance other than cleaning for at least 40 years.

The anodised surface of the aluminium is not a coating but is integral to the aluminium itself, eliminating the risk of cracking or peeling.

The anodising standard employed is the same as for marine equipment, so it also offers long term protection against most forms of corrosion.

Metallurgical tests show that Universal Hardcoat anodising is twice as hard as stainless steel and is thus highly resistant to abrasion.

Most forms of aluminium architectural products can be given a similar level of protection by specifying Universal Hardcoat anodising.

Aluminium facade systems, awnings, rails, posts, poles, balusters, doors, windows, steps, stairs and decks can all be colour anodised.

Colours include silver, silver grey, stainless grey, slate, charcoal, beige, black, bronzes, and a range of attractive blues and greens.
