Fresh Roles for Colour Anodising |
|
The continuing quest for more sustainable building solutions is sparking fresh interest in colour anodised architectural products.A new commercial building in Brisbane provides one example of the creative use of colour anodised facade canopies to reduce maintenance. The canopy panels, fabricated in Brisbane by Everything Metal, are colour anodised by Universal Anodisers at Wetherill Park, Sydney. Prior experience indicates that the anodised gold coloured panels should need no maintenance other than cleaning for at least 40 years. The gold coloured surface is not a coating but is integral to the aluminium substrate, eliminating the risk of peeling or cracking. The anodising standard employed is the same as for marine equipment, so it also offers long term protection against most forms of corrosion. Metallurgical tests show that Universal Hardcoat anodising is twice as hard as stainless steel and is thus highly resistant to abrasion. Technical information on the hardness, durability, UV resistance and corrosion resistance of Universal Hardcoat anodising can be seen by clicking here Varied forms of aluminium architectural products (such as extrusions and sheets) can be given a similar level of protection by specifying Universal Hardcoat anodising. Aluminium facade systems, awnings, rails, posts, poles, balusters, doors, windows, steps, stairs and decks can all be colour anodised. Colours include silver, silver grey, stainless grey, slate, charcoal, beige, black, bronzes, and a range of attractive blues and greens.
